As the holiday season is upon us, I have begun to notice brands shifting their marketing and advertising tactics in order to capitalize on the high and mighty Holiday buying season. Let’s take a look at a brand that does an excellent job shifting their marketing and advertising efforts in tandem with the Holiday Season:

Shiner has ingeniously aligned their brand with the Holiday Season in order to create hype and buzz around a beloved product. Loyal customers eagerly await Shiner’s gift of “Shiner Holiday Cheer.”  This beer is Shiner’s winter seasonal beer and is exclusively offered during the Holiday months. It has been deemed by many a thirsty college student to literally taste like Christmas. The labeling (in green, red, and white of course!) on the front of the bottle entices people to, “Give Shiner Holiday Cheer.” Shiner has branded this beer as their holiday gift to consumers as the bottle cap even says “To: You, From: Shiner.” Shiner’s labeling even goes as far as saying, “Give one to someone you love.” Shiner has successfully branded this product as the ultimate holiday beer and has capitalized on spreading not only holiday cheer, but the gift of giving. On Twitter, “#shinercheer”  has become extremely popular. Additionally, people share pictures via Twitter and Instagram of their experiences with Shiner Cheer. This builds buzz around the product and loyalty amongst consumers.

As mentioned earlier, as crazy as this might sound, this beer is crafted to taste like Christmas. Everything about the taste of this product, to the look of it, is branded to remind people of Christmas and the Holiday Season. The packaging aids in creating this unique holiday “feel” due to the colors and nostalgic 1950s advertising style. The nostalgic packaging sends people back down memory lane— reminding them of  simple, yet good times spent with family and friends. Many influential beer bloggers have took to blogging about this “Christmas-time beer,” which has helped Shiner establish this beer as not only good tasting, but reputable amongst influential beer consumers.
